What a fabulous production GADS produced in October with Sheila’s Island. The 4 ladies that took the roles on really showed what GADS, as a group, are capable off. They were barely off stage at any point and portrayed their characters brilliantly. The Director, Benita Blacklock, created an incredible production, pushing the cast to delve into some inner, dark, emotions and show them to the village of Gosforth, which was supported by some incredibly well thought out pieces of music. This was an extremely brave production to take on and the team did an incredible, helping the audience experience laughter, real life moments, tears, anger and shock! We had some superb feedback from audience members who found the show ‘quite disturbing, but in a good way’ and wanted to see more shows like this from GADS in the future. Massive well done to all the cast and a huge thank once again to our audience that came out to support us. We couldn’t put these shows on without the support of you all! Sheila’s Island This is a darkly funny play exploring the fractured relationship between 4 women on a disastrous team building event, interspersed with plenty of music to reflect the mood of the scenes. Audiences should be aware that this play contains mature themes, including discussions of mental health, and may not be suitable for younger children. |

It’s Bonfire Night 2024. Sheila, Denise, Julie and Fay are Team ‘C’ in Pennine Mineral Water Ltd’s annual outward bound team building weekend. Somehow, Sheila has been nominated Team Leader where, using her cryptic crossword solving skills, she has unwittingly stranded her team on Rampsholme Island in Derwentwater. Our intrepid heroines find themselves manufacturing weapons from cable ties and spatulas and create a rescue flag with plastic plates and a toasting fork. Questions are asked, truths are told and dirty washing is aired, including discussions of mental illness and suicide. Watch as the ‘team’ dissolve – will they ever make it off the island?
The production was directed by Benita Blacklock (who directed our last award-winning production ‘Lucky Sods’ back in 2019) assisted by Andy Williams.
