is back
We will be meeting in the Function Room at the Kellbank, at 7:30pm on
Tuesday 11 November
Tuesday 2 December
Tuesday 6 January
Tuesday 3 February
All are welcome and you don’t have to be a budding actor.
Just come along, have a drink, have a read and have some fun.
Our first reading on 11 November will be “Murdered to Death” by Peter Gordon.
After “Two”, we need something light-hearted and this is it.
This is the first in the ‘Inspector Pratt’ trilogy of spoofs of the Agatha Christie ‘whodunnit’ genre.
The play introduces the inept and bungling Inspector Pratt, who battles against the odds and his own incompetence to solve the murder of the house’s owner. It soon becomes clear that the murderer isn’t finished yet; will the miscreant be unmasked before everyone else has met their doom or will the audience die laughing first?
The Public Hall Refurbishment
As many of you will already know, Gosforth Public Hall will be receiving some much-needed TLC over the coming months to a year. This is very exciting for both the community and our Society. However, with work happening in our costume, scenery and prop stores, as well as our changing areas, this means we have had to make some difficult decisions regarding the upcoming programme. We are very excited about the new line-up although everything is subject to review as the programme of refurbishment work develops.
When will the work start and how long will it last?
Phase 1 of the work (on the library end of the building) began on 6 October 2025 and is programmed to last for 6 months until the end on March 2026. There is no programme yet for phase 2 of the work on the Main Hall.
Will the Youth Theatre Group continue?
The weekly Youth Theatre Group returned on 16 September and we will keep them going for as long as we can. Hopefully this will lead up to a performance of “The Phantom and the Phoenix” in March.
Will there be any parking at the Hall?
There will not. The construction contractors will need most of the current car parking areas for their construction compounds although they will create safe access walkways to 3 of the 4 doorways, including the disabled access door at the rear of the building. Please drop off near the hairdressers if necessary and park in the free public car park across the road.
Will there be a pantomime in January 2026?
Sadly, the lack of facilities mean that we will not be able to run our customary pantomime in January. However, we should be back in 2027 with a fantastic version of Sleeping Beauty.
And beyond that?
Things become a bit more difficult to predict after that, but for May 2026 members of all ages will be putting on a “21st century showcase” featuring songs from modern musicals. This will be directed by Tosh McGregor. Expect glitz, glamour, and jazz hands! We are designing this show so that it can be relocated to another venue if the Main Hall becomes unavailable.
