The Public Hall Refurbishment
As many of you will already know, Gosforth Public Hall will be receiving some much-needed TLC over the coming months to a year. This is very exciting for both the community and our Society. However, with work happening in our costume, scenery and prop stores, as well as our changing areas, this means we have had to make some difficult decisions regarding the upcoming programme. We are very excited about the new line-up although everything is subject to review as the programme of refurbishment work develops.
Will the GADS autumn play “Two” go ahead?
Yes – this should go ahead as planned with performances from 16 to 18 October and you can find out more information here. From 12 September, there will be a link to buy tickets. The Play “Two” is set on a 1980s pub and directed by Benita Blacklock who brought us “Sheila’s Island” last year. We are anticipating no kitchen facilities by then but you are very welcome to bring your own drinks to this pub.
Will there be a pantomime in January 2026?
Sadly, the lack of facilities mean that we will not be able to run our customary pantomime in January. However, we should be back in 2027 with a fantastic version of Sleeping Beauty.
Will the Youth Theatre Group continue?
The weekly Youth Theatre Group should return from 16 September and we will keep them going for as long as we can. Hopefully this will lead up to a performance of “The Phantom and the Phoenix” in March.
And beyond that?
Things become a bit more difficult to predict after that, but for May 2026 members of all ages will be putting on a “21st century showcase” featuring songs from modern musicals. This will be directed by Tosh McGregor. Expect glitz, glamour, and jazz hands! We are designing this show so that it can be relocated if the Main Hall becomes unavailable.
